SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATOR CIVIL COMMITMENT SECTION
SEXUAL PREDATORS, TOBACCO, ALCOHOL & GAMING (STAG) DIVISIONDUTIES: Assigned to the Sexually Violent Predator Civil Commitment Section (SVPCCS), this attorney oversees the investigation, prosecution and related litigation of persons being considered for involuntary civil commitment as sexually violent predators. This individual will be assigned to prosecute civil commitments in circuit courts throughout the Commonwealth. The attorney must develop cases for prosecution, including collection of relevant information, evaluation of cases, coordination with expert witnesses, and prosecution of probable cause hearings, motions hearings, and trials. This prosecutor is responsible for handling a substantial case load, and maintaining files for each case. Some overnight travel is required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have graduated from an accredited law school, be admitted to the Virginia State Bar, and have at least five years of litigation practice. The successful candidate will have excellent analytical and writing abilities and oral communication skills as evidenced by a writing sample and references. Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
