Richmond- The Office of the Attorney General of Virginia will intervene in a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Eastern Division, against JM Eagle Manufacturing, and its former parent company, Formosa Plastics Corp. (USA) under the Virginia Fraud Against Taxpayers Act and other similar state and federal laws alleging JM Eagle defrauded state and local governmental entities in the procurement of PVC pipe for use in water and sewer applications by the governmental entities. The JM Eagle PVC pipe was allegedly deficient in its manufacture, failing to meet purported quality standards. JM Eagle is alleged to have knowingly falsified test results and fraudulently represented that the pipe at issue met the standards when company officials knew it did not.
Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli commented on the matter:
“Dishonest companies who cheat the Virginia taxpayers will be held accountable. I intend to pursue this case to insure that Virginia’s communities are compensated for any costs associated with the deceptive business practices used by JM Eagle and the sub-standard PVC pipe JM Eagle supplied.”
