10-Member Firm Wins Second Annual Statewide ‘Legal Food Frenzy’
Attorney General Also Presents Awards to other Winning

RICHMOND - Attorney General Bob McDonnell visited the Central Virginia Foodbank today to present the “Attorney General’s Cup” to Richmond law firm Schettine & Nguyen, PLC, winner of the Second Annual Statewide “Legal Food Frenzy.” Also at today’s event McDonnell presented awards to Central Virginia law firms that won statewide categories in the “Legal Food Frenzy”. He also helped to present awards to the winners in the Central Virginia regional competition.
The “Legal Food Frenzy” is a statewide food drive competition for the Commonwealth’s legal community, and ran from March 31-April 11. 181 law firms statewide participated in this year’s event. The philanthropic competition among Virginia’s legal community raised 1,366,401 pounds of food for Food Banks in the Commonwealth, enough food for 1,067,501 meals. This doubles last year’s total of almost 679,000 pounds raised. The goal for this year’s event was 1 million pounds. The Second Annual Statewide “Legal Food Frenzy” raised 650,571.24 pounds of food in just the Central Virginia region alone.
The Statewide “Legal Food Frenzy” is sponsored by The Office of the Attorney General, The Virginia Bar Association, and The Federation of Virginia Food Banks.
The 2008 statewide winner, Schettine & Nguyen, PLC of Richmond, has three lawyers and seven staff members. The firm raised an incredible 4,187.75 pounds of food per capita.
“It is my great honor to present the ‘Attorney General’s Cup’ to Schettine & Nguyen, PLC,” Attorney General McDonnell said. “This 10-member firm raised an impressive 4, 187 pounds of food per staff member. That is an incredible accomplishment, and I congratulate Angela Schettine, Jim Schettine, Nhon Nguyen and the entire staff. Through their generosity hundreds of their fellow Virginians received the nutritional meals they need. I can’t say enough about the great contribution this firm has made to the Richmond area.”
McDonnell added, “I also want to congratulate the other two firms from this area that won statewide categories in the ‘Legal Food Frenzy,’ Christian and Barton, LLP and McGuireWoods LLP. Finally I want to congratulate all the regional winners. The Second Annual Statewide ‘Legal Food Frenzy’ was a success. The competition raised over 1.3 million pounds of food statewide, enough for over 1 million meals for Virginians in need. The 2008 ‘Legal Food Frenzy’ has reminded us yet again of the incredible good that can be accomplished when Virginians work together to help their fellow citizens.”
