When you're surfin' the Internet, it's a big world out there! Here are some great ideas to stay safe and
to be the best online citizen you can be!
Have fun, and remember Safe Surfin'
Do talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for going online.
Do tell my parents right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable.
Do decide with my parents upon the time of day that I can be online, how long I can be online, and places to visit online.
Do be a good online citizen and don’t do anything that hurts other people or is against the law.
Do not give out personal information without my parents’ permission. Personal information can be my address, telephone number, parents’ work address/telephone number, or the name and location of my school.
Do not agree to get together with someone I "meet" online and if anyone asks, tell my parents right away.
Do not send a person my picture or anything else unless I check with my parents and they say that I can.
Do not respond to any messages that are mean or make me feel uncomfortable in any way. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents right away so that they can contact the service provider.
Do not give out my Internet password to anyone (even my best friends) other than my parents.
Don't break copyright rules by taking words, pictures or sound from someone else's Web site without their permission. And don't put words, pictures or sounds on other people's Web sites without their permission. That's not cool!
